Greenwashing: How to Avoid It When Marketing Your Credentials
3 min readJanuary 28, 2026
Using your Carbon Certificate in marketing is a great idea, but you must be careful not to "greenwash".
What NOT to say
Avoid vague terms like "Eco-Friendly," "Green," or "Carbon Free" unless you have specific scientific proof for the whole lifecycle.
What TO say
Be specific and factual. Use phrases like:
- "We measure and report our Scope 1 & 2 emissions annually."
- "We hold a verified Carbon Data Registry certificate."
- "Our emissions calculation is based on NGA 2026 factors."
Transparency is key. Showing your math (via our certificate) is the best defence against greenwashing accusations.
