Is Carbon Reporting Mandatory in Australia for 2026?

Currently, the Treasury Laws Amendment (Financial Market Infrastructure and Other Measures) Bill mandates climate reporting for large entities.

Who must report?

Group 1 (From 2025): Huge entities (500+ employees, $500m+ revenue).

Group 2 (From 2026): Large entities (250+ employees, $200m+ revenue).

Group 3 (From 2027): Medium entities (100+ employees, $50m+ revenue).

The Small Business Impact

If you are smaller than Group 3, you are not mandated by law to report yet. However, if you supply to a Group 1 or 2 company, they are mandated to report on their supply chain.

So while the government might not fine you, your biggest customer might fire you if you can't provide the data they are legally required to find.
